My wife has been my chief advisor lately as to which paintings to submit for upcoming shows. She suggested I go with my passion for surfing and it worked, "Fire and Ice" has been accepted into the June 2017 San Diego Watercolor Society member exhibition. This was a cash award juried show, and although I received no awards or mentions, it is an honor to hang among some of my favorite local artists such as Chuck McPherson, Charles Henry Rousse, Michael Garberick, Angela Westengard, and many others.
"Fire and Ice" is a watercolor painting based on a photograph by permission from surf photographer Daniel William Fryer of TheSurfingPhtog.com of one of Val Viera’s epic duck dives. On seeing this photo I emailed Daniel immediately, I simply had to paint it. The thrust of energy through the wave like a spear, passing from fire to ice like a Phoenix simply had to be painted, so I did.
Thank you to Craig Anderson and the San Diego Watercolor Society for inclusion in this month’s exhibition.
