This is a really great month for me, I have just been informed that "Guardians" has been accepted into the May San Diego Watercolor Society Member Show. The reception is tomorrow evening, May 5th, and Saturday, May 6th will be the reception for the Brea Art Gallery’s 32nd Annual Made In California Show in Brea, CA in which "Morning at the Mirror" and "There Goes My Hero" will show from May 6th to June 30th. AWESOME WEEKEND AHEAD!
I have always believed – and it’s as good as any other belief you can conjure – it is that which we have learned to love the most, that which has moved us and made us whole, that are the spirits that guard us when we sleep. They are always with us, they are what give us strength and guide us through the dark of the night to the dawn. "Guardians" is a celebration of the spirits that guide us through life and keep us safe when we are most vulnerable.
Although the characters in this painting are mostly personal, the symbolism is universal. Each animal spirit was chosen for the symbolism they represent in our lives that give us strength, love, and protection. In particular, you will see that the Clouded Leopard is also my animal spirit and has a special place among the other guardians.
Once again I’d like to express the deepest gratitude to the San Diego Watercolor Society and this month’s juror, Carol Mansfield for including me in this exhibition. The reception is this Friday May 6th, and look forward to seeing you all there!
