If you have visited the about page on this site, you’ll know I have only recently re-entered the art market after 35 years. I decided it was time to dive in and begin showing my work.
So it was with great honor to receive the message that not only was I accepted into the San Diego Watercolor Society’s September 2016 member show, but that "Morning at the Mirror" received a Juror’s Commendation.
I didn’t expect to be accepted on my first try, especially since there were 244 entries, only 106 accepted, and the theme of the show was "Deconstructing Art: Experimental." "Morning at the Mirror" is far from experimental, even though every time I lay brush to paper it is an experiment for me.
It was an honor for my work to hang among so many other talented artists, and made a lot of connections at the First Friday Reception.
The highlight of my evening: I am taking a workshop in November with world-renowned artist and San Diego resident, Keiko Tanabe. I have followed her work for years and she is one of my favorite watercolorists.
At one point in the evening I turned around and who is standing there but Ms. Tanabe, admiring **MY** work! I introduced myself and we chatted for a short while. For me it was a little bit like a Beatle saying "nice jams mate." I have so much to learn from her and am looking forward to the workshop in November.
Many thanks to the jurors and board of the San Diego Watercolor Society, I could not hope for a warmer welcome into this community. There is only one "first" for any life experience, I am now looking forward to the day I have my first solo show.
